I Spy Slyde

SLYDE The Playground Hound entertained and educated children and guests of the Township of Jefferson, New Jersey, at the grand opening of an all-inclusive play structure and the Township’s largest play area to date. According to playground designer George Herberger, Vice President of Ben Shaffer and Associates, “After designing and installing several BCI Burke pocket parks for the township, I was asked to provide a state of the art playground that was totally inclusive to children of all abilities.”

Slyde the Playground Hound made a special guest appearance at the 84th annual National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) Convention in Baltimore, Maryland, April 2005. Slyde draws a large crowd where ever he goes. At the NAESP convention attendees waited in line to be  photographed with everyone’s favorite playground safety hound. The BCI Burke Company, corporate sponsor of Slyde’s program for playground safety awareness, awarded six lucky elementary schools with live Slyde appearances valued at $200 each.

Playground safety advocate Curtis Stoddard brought SLYDE The Playground Hound to a group of school age children in Sri Lanka with a gift of SLYDE’s playground safety program. Before introducing SLYDE to the children, the teacher shook her head “NO” which really means “YES” to Sri Lankans. The youngsters listened attentively to the story of SLYDE The Playground Hound as read by Curtis. High-five’s and giggles were exchanged while visiting on the front steps of the children’s school.

Slyde the Playground Hound made a special appearance at Applebee’s Restaurant in Idaho Falls, Idaho to the delight of the diners at the fundraiser to benefi t the Equal Access Playground which is a playground for both handicapped and normally developing children. The evening’s fundraiser was a celebrity waiter benefi t where all the tips from the meals went to the playground fund. In addition, patrons could have their picture taken with Slyde or their celebrity waiter for a small donation.

Fitts Park - Salt Lake City, Utah

Slyde the Playground Hound was at Fitts Park in South Salt Lake City, UT in September. Slyde entertained the kids and even helped landscape the newly installed playground. The children participated in a drawing to win prizes from Slyde! The boys and girls also learned about all kinds of safety on Saturday; from playgrounds taught by Slyde, to internet from Faux Paw the Cat, and poison control from The University of Utah. It was a wonderful sunny day to learn and play.
